Proud Mary First Look: Check Out Taraji P. Henson Posed Like A Total Badass

It's hard to believe that it was just a few years ago that Taraji P. Henson was still a lead on the CBS starrer Person of Interest. In the time since she left that show, she's had a mad hit with Fox's Empire, won some awards for Hidden Figures, and signed up for a movie where she's set to play an assassin. It's that movie that has sparked our interest lately, as Taraji P. Henson has shared a badass first look at Proud Mary. Check it out.

Proud Mary isn't hitting theaters until 2018, but the movie has already moved into post-production, and Taraji P. Henson was more than happy to give us this glimpse of her on the set, where she performed a lot of her own stunts and generally looked like a badass. We've seen the actress handle a gun--and do it well--on the aforementioned Person of Interest, but starring in a movie where she'll play an assassin should feature a whole different level of stunt work than a network TV show.

Proud Mary won't just be just any assassin film, either. While we'll get a ton of hard hitting kills from Charlize Theron when the assassin flick Atomic Blonde hits theaters later this summer (and if you haven't checked out that movie yet, head here), Proud Mary's plot will shift away from the assassin stuff a bit, as Taraji P. Henson's character Mary will meet a young boy who "awakens her maternal instinct." Since she works for a prominent Boston crime family, we'll have to wait and see how those maternal instincts pan out. The movie has been described as a thriller, so things should get interesting.

Taraji P. Henson is coming off of the acclaim she earned for Hidden Figures, which earned both Golden Globe and Oscar nods, not to mention actually won at the BET Awards, MTV Movie Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In addition to the upcoming season of Empire, the actress also has the Richard Pryor biopic Is It Something I Said coming up, as well as The Best of Enemies and Tyler Perry's She's Living My Life. So expect to see the actress on the big and small screen in the coming months, and in a lot of different sorts of projects.

Proud Mary is also expected to star Justified's Neal McDonough, Margaret Avery, Danny Glover, Xander Berkeley, Jahi Di'Allo Winston, Rade Serbedzija, and Billy Brown. London Has Fallen director Babak Najafi is also on board to direct the movie. Proud Mary has a tentative release date of January 2018.
