New Fantastic Beasts 2 Image Hints At Nicolas Flamel

With Harry Potter's story having concluded on the big screen in 2011 with The Deathly Hallows Part II (assuming, of course, that The Cursed Child isn't eventually adapted), Warner Bros has since would the clock back nearly a century to tell new stories set in the Wizarding World. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them kicked off this new saga almost a full year ago, and its sequel is currently in principal photography. Along with several returning characters, Fantastic Beasts 2 will feature a slew of new faces, and the latest tease for next year's magical adventure teased someone who's quite familiar to Harry Potter enthusiasts: Nicolas Flamel.

It was announced earlier this month that Nicolas Flamel will finally appear in the flesh in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, where he'll be played by Brontis Jodorowsky. While his exact involvement in the sequel's plot hasn't been revealed yet, the Fantastic Beasts Facebook page recently posted the above image of a book fitted with one of Flamel's custom locks, teasing that the man holds a lot of secrets. One can surmise some of his mysteries will come to light when he partakes in the events of Fantastic Beasts 2.

Those well-versed in the Harry Potter are familiar with Nicolas Flamel as the alchemist who created the Philosopher's Stone, or as American audiences know it, the Sorcerer's Stone. Along with being able to turn any metal into pure gold, the Stone could also create the Elixir of Life, the substance which Flamel used to greatly extend his lifespan, as well as his wife's, to six centuries. In the first Harry Potter movie, Voldemort attempted to use the Sorcerer's Stone to regenerate his body, but he was unsuccessful in doing so, and the Stone was expected to be destroyed after the story's events. Although it's called the Philosopher's Stone in the Facebook post, presumably to maintain continuity with the Harry Potter films, it will still go by its sorcerous identification, and that's assuming it's even mentioned at all.

As for Brontis Jodorowsky, he is just one of the many new performers who will appear Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2. Other announced participants include Callum Turned as Theseus Scamander, David Sakurai as Krall, Claudia Kim, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Jessica Williams and Kevin Guthrie, as well as Zoe Kravitz making her full debut as Leta Lestrange and Jude Law playing a younger Albus Dumbledore. As for established characters, Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein, Queen Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski, Credence Barebone and Gellert Grindelwald will all be back. Fantastic Beasts 2 will take place in 1927 (only a few months after the first movie), and will follow Newt and his allies trying to neutralize the recently-escaped Grindelwald, the most dangerous Dark wizard in the Wizarding World during this period.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will cast its spell in theaters on November 16, 2018. To find out what other cinematic releases are in store for next year, look through our 2018 premiere guide.
