Johnny Depp Sued By Crew Member For Allegedly Punching Him

Johnny Depp City of Lies

Movie sets can get pretty intense when tempers start to fly. There are innumerable stories about actors and filmmakers getting into scrapes with one another while working on films, with some of Hollywood's biggest names capturing headlines for these fights. Now, Johnny Depp is one of those big names associated with an on-set melee, as the Black Mass actor is currently being sued for allegedly punching someone on the set of an upcoming film.

The incident allegedly took place on the set of City of Lies in April 2017. Per a report from TMZ, Johnny Depp reportedly attacked a location manager named Gregg "Rocky" Brooks when time constraints dictated that the crew would need to move on from a given scene after one more take. According to Brooks, Depp allegedly reacted violently to this instruction and punched him in the ribs two times.

From there, Johnny Depp reportedly began taunting Brooks. As the location manager recounted after the encounter, Depp (who, per Brooks' account of the ordeal, may have been drinking) allegedly offered him $100,000 to punch him in the face -- an offer that Brooks did not take him up on at the time. That said, Brooks is now seeking monetary damages from the movie star, though the exact amount remains unspecified at this time.

This incident on the set of City of Lies is the latest in a series of issues that have popped up for Johnny Depp in recent years. In addition to this particular lawsuit, the actor is also embroiled in another suit from one of his former bodyguards, and his alleged financial excesses (not to mention his dramatic and high-profile split from Justice League actress Amber Heard) has kept him a relatively consistent presence on the pop culture headlines.

As for City of Lies, the film is a biopic chronicling the aftermath of the death of famous rapper Biggie Smalls. The film stars Depp as a Detective Russell Poole, the real-life police officer responsible for investigating the death of Smalls, as he delves into the mystery behind the musician's murder. In addition to Johnny Depp, City of Lies has also enlisted Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Forest Whitaker and The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman.

No matter what happens in this particular story, CinemaBlend will bring you any and all relevant details and updates related to it as they become available to us. City of Lies is set to debut on September 7, 2018.
