The Charlie's Angels Reboot Has Officially Cast Kristen Stewart And More
The Charlie's Angels franchise is about to come back in a major way under the direction of Pitch Perfect star Elizabeth Banks. The director has teased casting updates and fan contests associated with the film in recent days, and now we finally have our main trio of badass heroines. With that in mind, we can now officially confirm that Twilight star Kristen Stewart and British actress Ella Balinska have joined the cast of the film, joining Naomi Scott and Banks herself.
A new report from THR confirms that Kristen Stewart is going to join Elizabeth Banks' reboot of the Charlie's Angels franchise, along with British actress Ella Balinska. Stewart has specifically been in the running for this film for quite a while and has made no secret of the fact that she has wanted to get involved in Banks' project earlier this year. Balinska and Stewart are the latest two to join the cast, rounding out the titular trio following the recent casting of Power Rangers star Naomi Scott.
One of the most interesting things to note about the casting of these three women is their respective levels of experience in Hollywood. Kristen Stewart is a household name, while Naomi Scott recently shot to stardom with her work on Power Rangers and her upcoming turn in the live-action Aladdin adaptation for Disney. As for Ella Balinska, she is a relative newcomer, with a number of credits in the TV and short film world.
In addition to the newly-formed Angels for the Charlie's Angels reboot, the film is also changing things up in with its supporting ensemble. Specifically, the Charlie's Angels revival will have director Elizabeth Banks step in for the role of Bosley, a role that was previously portrayed by Bill Murray and the late Bernie Mac in previous the film iterations that premiered back in 2000 and 2003.
Now that a cast has been established, the latest question related to the Charlie's Angels reboot is that of the tone and style that Elizabeth Banks is aiming for. Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle carved out a unique niche for that particular timeline by embracing insane action and a heightened sense of realism, but that was a different era with a different cast and a different director. There are a lot of new angles for Banks to explore with a reboot of the beloved series, so we will have to wait and see what she does with the property.
What we do already know about this version of Charlie's Angels is that it will be a globe-trotting adventure. It will embrace the idea of Charlie Townsend's detective agency that has been a staple of the series ever since the 1970s, but updates it for the modern era.
With the main cast now fully formed, we will make sure to bring you more information related to the Charlie's Angels reboot as further details about the project's development are made available to us. Until then, mark the film's September 27, 2019 release date down on your calendars and head over to our movie premiere guide to see what films are still on the horizon for this year!
