It's been 23 years since the release of the iconic '90s classic Clueless, and since then it's become a cult hit that defines the teen generation of that era. If you've been totally buggin' to see more from Cher Horowitz and the gang, you might be in luck. A Clueless remake is in the works at Paramount with two talented women running the show. Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver is producing and GLOW writer Marquita Robinson is tackling the script.

Since Clueless is early in development, it's hard to tell if the film will be a complete reboot of the classic or if we'll get to play catch up with the original cast who are now in their 40s. Considering the report by Deadline is classifying the film as a remake, one might guess the film will attempt to capture the spark of the original, possibly with a new twist for the teenagers of today. Clueless is famously remembered for its unique slang and lines particular to the era such as "As If," making it a re-watchable period piece that Mean Girls was to teens of the early '00s. Clueless was already a modern retelling of sorts, as it was loosely based on Jane Austen's novel Emma.

Considering the teen film kick-started several actor's careers, including Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer, Donald Faison, Jeremy Sisto and the late Brittany Murphy, it would be a nostalgic treat to see some of the cast back together. Silverstone put back on her iconic plaid get-up for an episode for _Lip Sync Battl_e earlier this year, so I'd bet the actress wouldn't be opposed to rollin' with the homies again. If the original cast was implemented, the story might culminate the gang with a 25 year high school reunion, possibly with the characters dealing with some superficial teens of their own.

Either way with the talent behind this Clueless remake, it looks like it may be in good hands whether it has us following a new set of characters or the one's we know. Producer Tracy Oliver co-wrote one of 2017's breakout successes Girls Trip, which introduced the hilarious Tiffany Haddish into the mainstream. Oliver was also a part of Issa Rae's precursor to her HBO success Insecure, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and Barbershop: The Next Cut. She is also remaking another '90s classic The First Wives Club, which starred Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler, into a television series for Paramount Television. Writer for the new Clueless, Marquita Robinson, was also a staff writer for Fox series New Girl, as well as Netflix's celebrated series GLOW.

Clueless is also getting its own off-Broadway musical starring Dove Cameron and featuring reimaginings of hit '90s songs, which will hit previews on November 20. Stay tuned for more on the Clueless remake as they come in on CinemaBlend. Let's hope it's not a full-on Monet!
