The Jeff Bridges Golden Globes Montage Was Amazing
Live, televised awards shows don't often create goosebump-inducing moments. A lot of times, it's comedic actors trying bits that work (Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh giving the audience at The Golden Globes flu shots), and bits that don't (Maya Rudolph proposing to Amy Poehler). But when awards or tributes are planned in advance, the producers have the time to put together a winning reel. And when your subject is Jeff Bridges... well damn, you have way too much valuable footage to work with.
And the Golden Globes knocked their tribute to Jeff Bridges out of the park.
Jeff Bridges took to the stage on Sunday night at the 2019 Golden Globes ceremony to accept the annual Cecil B. DeMille award. And he had an AMAZING speech. You expected anything less from Jeff Bridges? But right before that happened, the Globes producers put together an incredible sizzle reel of Bridges' career. It spanned decades.
Naturally, it lent some major focus to The Big Lebowski, where Jeff Bridges created -- with the help of Joel and Ethan Coen -- the role he'll forever be associated with: The Dude.
But the montage showed off what an incredible career Jeff Bridges has had, with a staggering number of iconic roles he has brought to life for a rabid audience. The reel included looks at such early works as The Last Picture Show (he looked like a baby!) and Heaven's Gate to his mega-successful hits like TRON, Starman, The Fabulous Baker Boys (with his brother, Beau), and Seabiscuit.
Thankfully, they leaned into True Grit, because it's brilliant.
In his speech, Jeff Bridges thanks "the brothers," recognizing all of the love that he gets for working with The Coen Brothers. While Bridges has made numerous incredible films -- as the montage reminded us, his work on Crazy Heart won him multiple awards -- his collaborations with the Coens remain some of the actor's most beloved features.
