Norman Reedus Thinks The Walking Dead Movie Might Reunite Daryl And Rick

Daryl and Rick on The Walking Dead

Since debuting back in 2010, AMC's The Walking Dead has turned into a TV phenomenon. The apocalyptic franchise has never failed to capture audience's attention, with high stakes drama, gore, and countless devastating character deaths. Following the success of spinoff Fear The Walking Dead, a third series was revealed. And that's not all, it turns out that Rick Grimes' movie will get a full theatrical release.

This news took the fandom by surprise, given how the Walking Dead franchise has thus far lived exclusively on either the page or AMC's network. Bringing the zombie apocalypse to theaters will break new ground, and it seems like just about anything could happen in the mysterious untitled project. And according to Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus, it could even bring the long awaited reunion between the two protagonists. As the 50-year-old recently put it:

I definitely think, if that’s on the cards, that should without a doubt happen. It’s such a family group, and it would be hard not to have that family be part of the story dynamic, you know what I mean?

The man makes a point here, although he seems to be largely theorizing about what Rick Grimes' movie will entail. But given the anticipation for the project, Norman Reedus is hoping Daryl will also make his big screen debut, reuniting with Andrew Lincoln's signature character in the process.

Norman Reedus' comments to IGN are sure to excite the Walking Deadheads out there who miss Rick Grimes' presence on the show. The flagship series always followed Rick's journey through the zombie apocalypse, but all that changed when actor Andrew Lincoln left last year. While some believe The Walking Dead actually got better as a result of this format change, fans are still eager to see the protagonist reunite with some of his chosen family.

Everyone on The Walking Dead believes that Rick died on the bridge that day, and it certainly appeared to be true. But it turns out that Jadis/Anne saved the former lawman, taking him aboard her mysterious helicopter. There's been no updates from Rick since, although that should change in the upcoming movie. Let's just hope that characters like Daryl are also included.

Daryl and Rick's friendship is one of the most beloved relationships in The Walking Dead. While Norman Reedus' character started out as a gruff anti-hero, he soon grew to be one of the most lovable presences on the series. He and Rick bonded through their various near death experiences, with Rick even calling him a brother in later seasons.

A reunion between the two survivors would no doubt be an emotional one, especially given the the time jump that happened since Rick "died". Daryl's vulnerability has always shone through during these types of reunions, so it would give Norman Reedus the chance to bring his layered performance to the big screen.

It's currently unclear when The Walking Dead movie will arrive in theaters, but be sure to check back with CinemaBlend for the latest. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
