Will Mission: Impossible 7 Bring Back Vanessa Kirby's White Widow?

The White Widow in Mission: Impossible Fallout

In this weekend’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Vanessa Kirby plays Hattie, a particular badass and the sister of Jason Statham’s Shaw. This isn’t the first time the actress has played a deadly woman involved in clandestine international affairs in a massive action movie, last year she appeared as the mysterious White Widow in Mission: Impossible Fallout. Two more films in that spy franchise are officially on the way, so will we see Vanessa Kirby’s White Widow again?

In an exclusive interview with CinemaBlend’s own Mike Reyes, he asked the actress about this very question and whether or not anyone has talked to her about returning for Mission: Impossible 7. Vanessa Kirby responded:

Not yet because I think they’re on recuse right now looking everywhere in different countries for amazing locations. As you know, so much of that is part of Mission and I’m gonna have dinner with Chris McQuarrie so we’ll see what he says. They might not want me to come back. We’ll see.

For the moment, we don’t know if the White Widow will be brought back for Mission: Impossible 7. Vanessa Kirby has not been contacted about returning yet, but that shouldn’t be taken as a sign that she won’t be. It is still early days with Mission: Impossible 7 not set to hit theaters until the summer of 2021 and as she told Mike, all that is happening now is location scouting for what is sure to be another globe-trotting, action-filled mission.

So Vanessa Kirby may still be contacted about returning and to that end, the actress is planning to have dinner with Mission: Impossible Fallout writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, who is returning to write and direct Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 and shoot them back-to-back. It’s entirely possible that Vanessa Kirby and Christopher McQuarrie could have dinner just to catch up, but you’ve got to think that Mission: Impossible 7 might be a topic of conversation.

Vanessa Kirby joked that they might not want her to come back for Mission: Impossible 7, which while possible, seems rather unlikely. Christopher McQuarrie’s two films in the franchise, Fallout and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation have had a bit more connectivity with one another than the previous films, and it’s possible he may want the next two films to carry over some of the same elements and characters.

If a character isn’t dead in the Mission: Impossible franchise, they can always show up again; and the actress will only raise her profile in Hobbs & Shaw. Vanessa Kirby made quite the impression as Alanna Mitsopolis aka the White Widow in Fallout. She is a character that deals in a fascinating grey area where she is involved in international arms deals and money laundering, while also helping the CIA and IMF and engaging in philanthropic efforts. She’ll also stab someone with a butterfly knife without a moment’s hesitation.

You can see Vanessa Kirby discussing Mission: Impossible 7 in the video below:

We’ll have to wait and see if Vanessa Kirby is brought back for Mission: Impossible 7, but we do know that alongside Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, Rebecca Ferguson will be reprising her role as Ilsa Faust.

Mission: Impossible 7 opens in theaters on July 23, 2021. You have some time before then, so check out what’s coming out this year in our premiere guide.
