Writer-director James Gunn recently announced the full cast of his upcoming film The Suicide Squad. It is a fantastic list of names that includes returning favorites from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad as well as a host of new faces. However, one person found a glaring omission in the cast list. That person is Tommy Wiseau, who added himself to The Suicide Squad cast, because of course he did. Take a look:
Tommy Wiseau has apparently been working on his Photoshop skills. The writer, director and star of consensus worst movie ever The Room, took to Twitter to slyly insert his name into James Gunn’s cast list for The Suicide Squad. And because subtlety isn’t exactly his forte, Tommy Wiseau put his name at the top of the cast list; he’s Tommy Wiseau after all.
To make things look legit and maintain the uniformity of the original cast announcement, Tommy Wiseau had to replace someone else’s name with his own. So whom did Wiseau deem most dispensable? None other than Captain Boomerang himself, Jai Courtney got thrown right off the cast list to make room for Tommy.
That doesn’t mean that Tommy Wiseau wants to take Jai Courtney’s place as Digger Harkness. Tommy Wiseau has been pretty vocal in the past about his desire to play the Joker, even going so far as to make a fun audition tape in full makeup to show what he could do with the character. Tommy Wiseau has also offered his own constructive criticism on Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in Suicide Squad.
With Jared Leto absent from the cast list for The Suicide Squad, a fact that did not go unnoticed by DC fans, Tommy Wiseau may see an opening to throw on the makeup and slide into the role while Jared Leto is off playing a living vampire in Morbius. As was the case with his attempt to get into Todd Phillips’ Joker I don’t imagine his chances of landing the role are particularly good.
It doesn’t appear that Joker will be a part of The Suicide Squad and nor does it seem like he will be in the upcoming Birds of Prey. Jared Leto has said he wants to play the character again but when that will happen is anyone’s guess at this point. But even if the Joker part is not available for Tommy Wiseau in The Suicide Squad, maybe his campaigning will pay off in another way.
If ever there were a comic book movie where Tommy Wiseau of all people could show up in a fun sort of cameo that would feel relatively appropriate, a movie from James Gunn would seem the most likely, given the writer-director’s sensibilities. So if Tommy Wiseau is going to shoot his shot to be in a comic book movie, The Suicide Squad or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be his best options.
