The Batman's Robert Pattinson Hopes He's Now Too 'Boring And Old' For Twilight-Era Stalking

When Robert Pattinson signed on to star as Edward Cullen in 2008’s Twilight, he had no idea just how much it would change his life. He saw the $37 million budget project to be no different from the other small-budget flicks he often gravitates toward. He thought the vampire romance was a “a weird story” (and let’s be honest… it totally is). Yet, Twilight became a cultural phenomenon, and the actor became a famed heartthrob overnight.

He and Kristen Stewart were followed around for years by their young teen fans and paparazzi. Following the whirlwind of the five-film franchise ending back in 2012, Robert Pattinson has been understandably laying low since on high-profile projects. But, now he’s Batman. Is he worried about history repeating itself? Here’s what he says:

I think there's a part of me that thinks it isn't possible to kind of be -- that what happened in Twilight, it was just so sudden. And that now I'm kind of, I don't know. I'm hoping it won't be people hanging out outside my place. [Laughs] I just think I'm kind of boring and old now.

The odds of topping the craze the Twilight franchise back in the day does seem slim. When you’re at the center of a franchise based on anything with a preteen audience, the hype is going to skyrocket. Think the Beatles – any major boy band really. That’s the kind of stardom Twilight propelled its stars to. Batman has a huge massive fanbase, but it they don’t quite give off the same energy.

As the now 33-year-old Robert Pattinson told The Today Show, he just doesn’t think it’s possible for him to walk into any brighter of a spotlight then he was met with for Twilight. He does hope The Batman fans don’t end up showing up at his doorstep. It seems to have happened quite a few times in the era of his vampire role.

One time when he was in Spain filming a movie, a stalker wouldn’t let up for weeks. She just kept showing up every single day. Funny enough, Robert Pattinson said he was “so bored and lonely” in the foreign country he decided to have dinner with her. He apparently ended up complaining about his life and boring her so much he said "she never came back."

Ten years later, he still doesn’t think he’s interesting enough to be watched and prayed on by fans. It’s all good, Rob – you’re not expected to entertain them or anything! Just call the cops, the movies will do that job.

Robert Pattinson is currently getting in shape for Matt ReevesThe Batman, training in jiu-jitsu and doing comic research. The movie coming in summer 2021 will also feature Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
