It’s a given that there are a ton of big stars who are part of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The upcoming DCEU movie will feature the return of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, along with a massive cast including Idris Elba, John Cena, Pete Davidson and Joel Kinnaman. But let’s talk about one of the smallest stars in the superhero movie. There was a rat performer on set and he was part of a funny tribute to Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt.

Ahead of The Suicide Squad coming to theaters and HBO Max next month, writer/director James Gunn talked about the random homage he paid to his Star-Lord actor when shooting scenes for Daniela Melchior’s character Ratcatcher. As the filmmaker explained:

We had a lot of rats that we worked with. A couple dozen, I guess. But we had two primary rats. One was named Jaws and one was named Crisp Ratt. [Laughs] They were our two main rats, and they were sweethearts, and they played Sebastian for most of the movie. Crisp could do some things and Jaws could do some other things. Jaws was the more mellow one. Whenever you needed a rat to just sit on Daniela's shoulder, or to be held by her, or whatever, that's almost always Jaws. And when you needed a more crazy rat that was drinking water or running across the room, that would be Crisp Ratt.

That’s right, there’s a Hollywood rat out there who now goes by Crisp Ratt. It’s an amazing play on words that takes after Chris Pratt, of course. The rat was one of many actor rats that worked with Daniela Melchior in her scenes. Her character of Ratcatcher has a best friend rat named Sebastian that Crisp Ratt especially worked closely to play.

The mere fact that we’re already talking about rat actors named after other actors has me convinced that The Suicide Squad is about to be one wild movie. When James Gunn brought up Ratt the rat to EW, he also shared Chris Pratt’s reaction to the tribute:

I had to text Chris the other day to be like, 'We're putting the credits together and one of our rats is named Crisp Ratt. This of course is meant as a compliment to you. But I just want to make sure that you're cool with that, that I put this rat's name in the credits… He thought it was hilarious.

To some, to be the inspiration for a rat’s name may come off as an insult, but Chris Pratt was apparently fully laughing alongside James Gunn about the easter egg referencing him. And funny enough, Pratt is well known for being in a fictional band called “Mouse Rat” in Parks and Recreation as Andy Dwyer. Maybe it’s also a callback to that as well?

I guess we’ll be looking out for “Crisp Ratt” in the credits of The Suicide Squad when we see it. The movie is coming to theaters and HBO Max on August 6. You can subscribe to HBO Max using this link.

Chris Pratt does not have a role in the DCEU film, but the actor and James Gunn have become close colleagues over the years thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Following the director’s press tour for his DC movie, we can expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to get rolling at the end of this year ahead of its release date on May 5, 2023.
