Lindsay Lohan’s first movie ever had audiences double-taking with 1998's The Parent Trap. The Disney film that served as a modern remake for the 1961 movie starring Hayley Mills will surpass its 23rd anniversary this week and with that, heads into its silver anniversary in 2023. And after all this time, the director and Lohan are still celebrating their love for the film.

Even in 2021, The Parent Trap is a beloved family movie that had many of us who grew up with it wondering if we too had a long lost British twin we could switch places with. The movie also starring Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson got some love from director Nancy Meyers on social media, which led to this sweet exchange with Lindsay Lohan:

Lindsey Lohan: Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime Nancy.Nancy Meyers: Love you always Linds.

Lindsay Lohan was eleven years old when she began playing the two roles of Hallie and Annie, which was double the work for a young actor. As The Parent Trap became a big hit, so did Lohan, who went on to star in numerous Disney movies including Life-Size, Get A Clue, Freaky Friday and Herbie: Fully Loaded.

The actress took some time to thank her director, Nancy Meyers, for giving her the opportunity to star in the film, and essentially an over 20-year career in the business. When the movie was casting its leads, Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mara Wilson and The Hunger Games’ Jena Malone were reportedly up for the roles. Lohan was clearly incredible in the role and all this time later, it’s one of her most iconic roles. Check out the director's post down below:

In Nancy Meyers’ post, she shared love to the many fans of the movie who have apparently sent her messages, photos and secret handshake videos to her over the years. The director also pointed out that the movie has since inspired Halloween costumes, parties and so forth. The Parent Trap must be special to Meyers as it was her first time as a director, before she would go on to make What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give and The Holiday, among other comedies. She’s made a lot of memorable films, but The Parent Trap seems to really stand out.

The Parent Trap is currently available to stream in Disney+. If you’d like to sign up for a subscription to the streaming site from the House of Mouse you can use this link. At present, Lindsay Lohan has signed on to star in romantic comedy for Netflix where she’ll play a hotel heiress. The actress has also opened up beach clubs in Greece and lives in Dubai. But without her first role in The Parent Trap, she'd likely live a whole other life.
