Dwayne Johnson Nabs True Detective Beauty Alexandra Daddario For San Andreas

If you sat through the first Percy Jackson movie, The Lightning Thief, you probably made a mental note that this young girl acting alongside all the CGI effects – Alexandra Daddario – had screen presence and was destined for bigger things. If you also sat through the Percy Jackson sequel, Sea of Monsters, well… you’re either a parent, or you need hobbies to fill your free time. But you likely saw Daddario, again, and thought, "Why hasn’t Hollywood woken up to this girl’s beauty and charisma?"

Hollywood’s waking up. Daddario has landed the female lead opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in New Line’s San Andreas, according to Deadline. The plot of the movie finds Rock playing a helicopter pilot who attempts to rescue his estrange daughter after a massive earthquake strikes California. Daddario would play this daughter.

And a little look behind-the-scenes:

Now, if you only know Daddario from the Percy franchise, you might be a little surprised – as I was – to Google search her and find out she was in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. And she’s part of HBO’s new True Detective series… where she recently had a graphic, kinky sex scene with Woody Harrelson! The 27-year-old actress is maturing in multiple ways, it seems, and grabbing a role in a Johnson actioner is another step in the right direction.

Here’s what we know about San Andreas. Brad Peyton directs. His resume includes Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (also with The Rock) and Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Seriously. This:

Are you still excited? The movie is in pre-production, and is eyeing a June 5, 2015 release date. It likely will aspire to the heights of those volcano movies that came out years ago, or the latest form of Roland Emmerich disaster porn. Hopefully the effects work will be impressive. Then again, Kitty Galore. Until then, Deadline says Daddario also is up for a role in the Entourage movie, so we’ll see if that comes to fruition.
