Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals 10 Year Opioid Addiction

Jamie Lee Curtis Halloween (2018)

This past weekend, Jamie Lee Curtis found some of the best success of her career with the release of Halloween. The newest installment in the prolonged horror franchise finds the veteran actress returning to her iconic role of Laurie Strode, the character often known as the original Final Girl. It hasn't been an easy journey for Curtis, and she has dealt with her own horrors in the past. That includes an opioid addiction, which plagued Curtis for 10 years. She kept this struggle away from the public's eye but it started in the late '80s and grew rapidly worse. Here's what Jamie Lee Curtis said.

I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic. I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one.

It is a startling revelation from Jamie Lee Curtis. Hopefully, however, it raises more awareness of the growing dangers of opioid addiction, and how it can hurt and affect even the wealthy and famous. Opioid addiction can be a brutal, devastating battle, and Curtis found herself in the thick of this addiction in the late '80s until the late '90s. She has a family history of addiction; notably in her famous members including her father Tony Curtis, who was addicted to alcohol, cocaine, and even heroin. But Jamie Lee Curtis is making a brave effort to stop the bull here, as she told People:

I'm breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family. Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment... bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything.

While Jamie Lee Curtis has a lot to be thankful for, it appears that sobriety is an accomplishment that she values deeply -- particularly considering her family's troubled history with addiction. I'm glad to know that Curtis is living clean and mindful of herself and her struggles, and she's keeping herself in check as she continues to find phenomenal success with her career and at the box office -- at it was made apparent during this weekend's receipts.

Halloween opened with a massive $77.5 million, which is a huge record for the franchise. A sequel is most certainly on the horizon, and we would be surprised if Jamie Lee Curtis wasn't involved. After all, her return to the long-standing horror series was one of the main draws of the film. The newest Halloween also slashed through other records, which Jamie Lee Curtis was proud to boast about on social media. Here's what she said.
