Zooey Deschanel And Ben Gibbard Are Finally Divorced

It’s been more than a year since actress Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard decided to go their separate ways, but it’s only been a week or so since the divorce was officially finalized. A judge signed off on the paperwork on December 12th, and fortunately for everyone involved, the negotiations seem to have been defined by goodwill and a sense of cooperation.

According to TMZ, Zooey and Ben both made the unusual decision of waiving any rights to spousal support or future compensation. They asked the judge to let them walk away with what they each have, and of course, he agreed to make that happen. That might sound like a logical course of events for two professionals with highend lucrative careers to make, but a solid percentage of people actually waste their lives fighting it out in court either to stick it to their ex or to get their hands on the last hundred thousand dollars when it can’t possibly change their lives anyway.

Without any children and no more financial ties binding them together, this is probably it for Deschanel and Gibbard. They were married in 2009 and got in a solid two years before their surprise split shocked their fans. Hopefully, after the strong emotions subside and they each go on to new projects, both Zooey and Ben will be able to look back with at least some fondness on the relationship even if it ultimately didn’t work out.
