Insidious is one of the best horror movies of all time, so I guess it was only a matter of time before it joined the growing list of movies to get a novelty popcorn bucket like Transformers, Harry Potter and Dune. We now have a first look at the bucket that's on the way ahead of Insidious: Out Of The Further's release. What I really wasn't expecting, though, was for fans to make Star Wars comparisons and everything in between.
Honestly, I'm still not even sure how The Further works, so I guess I'm glad to see the next Insidious movie movie is getting out of that weird and creepy space. I'm also glad one of my favorite horror franchises is getting a popcorn bucket, and I'm surprised it's the Lipstick-Face Demon taking center stage. Take a look at the container in AMC's Instagram post and get a better understanding of why people are making Darth Maul jokes and plenty of other references:
The Star Wars comparisons are nothing new, because people always thought he looked like a relative of the villainous character. Lipstick-Face Demon, played by the first film's composer, Joseph Bishara, is one of the most recognizable mascots of Insidious. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like many recognize him based on these comments, which have me busting a gut laughing:

I think the criticism has to do with the fact that the Insidious baddie looks disturbing in his popcorn bucket debut, but not necessarily terrifying. It reminds me of those scenes in movies in which a character is decapitated, but the special effects don't look convincing. Maybe I'm just too spoiled by how Hereditary's scene scarred me for life, and nothing else can compare.
Am I still buying one? Probably. With Insidious: Out Of The Further debuting amid the 2026 movie schedule later this month, this is the perfect prop to set up when Halloween season rolls around. Imagine having it positioned in a living room, and slowly moving it behind the head of a loved one while they're watching the movie?
That would be especially scary with Out Of The Further, as a woman discovers that she's able to enter and pull demons out of the Further and back into the real world. This means we could see Lipstick-Face Demon attacking people in the real world (on screen), and not just in the Further, which is a pretty frightening premise when you think about it.
I was optimistic when production wrapped on the project that this entry could breathe new life into the franchise, and I'm holding onto that until I see it in a theater and can make a decision one way or another. So believe me when I say I'll be seated when the film arrives and will likely have that popcorn bucket in tow. See Insidious: Out Of The Further when it hits theaters on August 21st.
