Seth Rogen's New TV Show Just Got Ordered To Series, Get The Details
Funnyman Seth Rogen has made a name for himself in showbiz largely thanks to his big screen ventures. It's easy to forget that he got his start on the small screen with the sadly short-lived Freaks and Geeks. Rogen has contributed to TV in a variety of capacities over the years since the end of Freaks and Geeks in 2000. Now, he has a new show in the works, and it just won a series order from Hulu. His half-hour comedy Future Man will get a first season of thirteen episodes.
Future Man follows the story of a janitor named Josh Futterman whose mundane days at work are offset by his crazy adventures at night. Mysterious visitors from the future decide that Josh's skills as a gamer have made him the perfect person to travel through time and stop events from unfolding that would mean the extinction of the human race. He's woefully unprepared for the challenges of saving humanity, so there should be plenty of laughs as the janitor/gamer tries to become a hero.
Seth Rogen works alongside his regular partner Evan Goldberg as the executive producers of Future Man. The twosome recently teamed up for the feature film Sausage Party, and they share the executive producing duties for Preacher on AMC. The half-hour comedy format will be new for Rogen and Goldberg as producers, but their history suggests that they can be counted on for some fun TV. Variety reports that Rogen and Goldberg directed the pilot of Future Man in addition to their executive producing roles.
There's no saying whether or not Seth Rogen will ever appear in front of the camera for Future Man. The show is set to star Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games fame. Future Man will be Hutcherson's first big role on television, so it should be interesting to see how he does on an ongoing series rather than in a feature film. The rest of the Future Man ensemble will be filled out with the likes of Eliza Coupe, Derek Wilson, Ed Begley Jr., and Glenne Headly.
Future Man is a pretty big score for Hulu. Multiple outlets were originally bidding for the rights to the comedy. It was a hot commodity back when it was only in the script stage; now that Josh Hutcherson is set to star, there will be big names in front of and behind the cameras. Hulu could have a major hit with Future Man thanks to the talent on board and the buzz that will certainly build as production moves forward.
The comedy will debut as a Hulu Original at some point in 2017. Check out our fall TV premiere schedule to see what you can watch while you wait for Future Man to become available online.
