One of the biggest highlights of New York Comic Con is always the Marvel/Netflix panel and this year it didn't disappoint. We got to see the cast of Iron Fist finally dish on some details about series, as well as some kick ass clips. Outshining all those things though was the moment that Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones took the stage, joining up as the Defenders in public for the first time. Watch the epic moment below.
Courtesy Netflix's YouTube account, we've got the first video footage of the Defenders standing side by side. Sure they aren't in costume, but it was still a wild moment that has years worth of fanboy hype behind it. Just listen to that crowd roar when they take the stage! This moment came at the tail end of the Iron Fist panel as a special treat for those in attendance. No new information about the plot of the secretive Defenders was given and the actors didn't speak, but it's still pretty satisfying.
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb did manage to drop one more major bomb on the audience and revealed the villain that brings the street level vigilante's together: Sigourney Weaver. The cheers of the crowd as Weaver took her spot next to the future Defenders is deafening. There's no word what character Weaver will be playing, but it's a good bet that it will be someone who challenges them emotionally while a secondary villain is the one who gets to do the punching. The whole reveal was a great Comic-Con moment.
With Luke Cage finally on Netflix and Iron Fist soon to come, we're closer than we've ever been to The Defenders. The highly anticipated series will unite Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) against a major threat to the people of New York City. Expect lots of cameo appearances from characters from each Netflix series, with the possibility of Punisher and Trish Walker getting some moments to shine too. Of course, what would a Marvel Netflix show be without Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) who has appeared in every single series so far; it'd be crazy to think she wasn't in The Defenders too.
The Defenders is expected to air sometime in 2017 with an eight-episode run, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates as they become available.
