A Glee Actor Is Heading To The Flash And Supergirl Musical Crossover

The next big crossover to hit The CW's DC universe will be a musical that brings the best singers that superhero series have to offer together for one big event. Supergirl and The Flash are both filled with a surprising number of talented actors, and it was going to take somebody with a strong set of pipes to keep up with them in the crossover. Luckily, it looks like the perfect person has landed the role of the villain. Darren Criss of Glee fame will play the menacing Music Meister in the crossover.

Darren Criss is best known for his performance as Blaine Anderson on Glee. He joined the show in its second season and stuck around all the way to the sixth and final season. His stint on Glee is proof that he has the voice to keep up with even the most seasoned singers who will appear in the Supergirl and Flash crossover, and the role will reunite Criss with two of his former cast mates. Criss acted opposite The Flash star Grant Gustin when Gustin played the openly gay and slightly villainous Warbler Sebastian in Season 3. He then shared the stage with Supergirl leading lady Melissa Benoist when she joined Glee as the shy Marley Rose in Season 4. Interestingly, Criss also has a musical connection with The Flash's Carlos Valdes. Both were members of the StarKid Productions theater group, which produced original musicals like A Very Potter Musical, Me and My Dick, and Holy Musical B@tman!

The musical crossover will kick off at the end of Episode 16 of Supergirl and then continue into Episode 17 of The Flash, which TVLine reports will be called "Duet." Music Meister is a DC villain who has a hypnotic singing voice that allows him to control the minds of heroes and villains alike. The unfortunate folks affected by his voice can only express themselves via song and dance. The character originated on Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series, where he was voiced by none other than Neil Patrick Harris. The casting of Darren Criss might come as a disappointment to fans who were hoping that Harris would play the Music Meister, but we can be sure that Criss will fit the bill, especially if he wears the traditional Music Meister costume. If Glee proved anything about Darren Criss, it's that he can wear a bowtie.

In addition to Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, the Music Meister will face off against Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, Victor Garber as Martin Stein, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, and John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn. Details about the plot are currently scarce, and we can only speculate on why Barry will need to nab Kara from her Earth to deal with the Music Meister. I like to think that he had no choice because Arrow's Oliver Queen flat-out refused to battle a villain that could make people sing and dance, but there's probably a more sinister reason why Barry will need to call on the big gun in the red cape from Earth-38.

The musical crossover begins on Supergirl on Monday, March 20 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, then finishes up on The Flash on Tuesday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest in TV news, and don't forget to check out our midseason TV premiere schedule.
