Rick and Morty has become one of Adult Swim's most beloved series with its whip-sharp joke-a-minute humor, high concept science fiction, and a surprisingly dark emotional center. It's a great show, and people have been foaming at the mouth for Season 3 ever since Season 2 wrapped with a surprising cliffhanger in 2015. But the low budget Adult Swim has a notoriously slow production schedule befitting of a late night cable network, and Season 3 has taken its sweet time. However, Adult Swim is also notorious for it's April Fool's pranks ,and it surprised literally everyone with an unannounced premiere of Season 3.
It's tough to call this a prank because it's really more of a gift, but Adult Swim secretly premiered the first episode of Rick and Morty Season 3 last night and simply trusted that the internet would fill everyone in. The episode streamed for several hours on a continuous loop on Adult Swim's website and network (in certain areas) up until midnight EST. It was a genius way to troll those who have been demanding to know when the season will premiere by airing the same episode all night. Due to the surprise of the debut, there's a chance quite a few people missed out on the experience, but Adult Swim has got you covered. Currently, Adult Swim's website is streaming a Rick and Morty marathon of every episode of the show, back-to-back, including the Season 3 premiere.
Depending on what time it is, you may have a while to go until it gets to Season 3, but you can get schwifty all day long and watch the stream right here.
For the uninitiated, Rick and Morty follows the nervous teenage Morty as he goes on interdimensional adventures with his grandpa Rick, an alcoholic mad scientist with little regard for anyone else (including himself). Created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, the show is brilliantly cutting and imaginative, while also being hilariously dark. When we last left things in Season 2, Rick had turned himself into the universe-spanning government known as the Galactic Federation as a prisoner in order to spare his family the same fate. The Federation then took over the Earth while Rick was sent to intergalactic prison
Season 3 kicks things off by immediately addressing this cliffhanger, and sets the tone for the rest of the new season (it's a pretty great episode). The show hasn't missed a beat in its absence featuring, Cronenbergs, Seal Team Rick, the return of The Council of Ricks, MAYBE a Rick origin story, and a heavy focus on McDonald's schezwan chicken nugget sauce.
