New Girl's Max Greenfield Just Found His Next Big TV Show

Max Greenfield Schmidt New Girl

There's still no word yet on the future of New Girl over on Fox as the network figures out if the comedy is canceled or not, but that doesn't mean the actors have to wait around sitting on their hands. Max Greenfield, who plays beloved tool Schmidt on the show, has just lined up his next TV gig and it's a pretty big one. Greenfield will continue his collaboration with super producer Ryan Murphy and appear on American Crime Story Season 3, which will cover the assassination of Gianni Versace.

Ryan Murphy shared the news himself with a post to his Instagram account. The picture showed off Max Greenfield in costume as a still undisclosed character while standing next to co-star Darren Criss. Criss will be portraying Andrew Cunanan on the show, the serial killer who for unknown reasons killed fashion mogul Gianni Versace. Ryan Murphy is directing the first episode of the new event series and revealed the series has a new title. Formerly known as Versace: American Crime Story, the new title is The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

This will not be the first time that Max Greenfield and Ryan Murphy will have worked together. Greenfield appeared in American Horror Story: Hotel, which also starred Lady Gaga. The New Girl actor played a recurring character named Gabriel on the show. Now Greenfield is keeping the Murphy train rolling by collaborating with Murphy on the latest American Crime Story.

In addition to Max Greenfield and Darren Criss, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story also stars Penelope Cruz as Gianni Versace's sister, Donatella; Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico, Versace's partner; and Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace himself. The series will follow Katrina: American Crime Story (based on Hurricane Katrina and the fallout in New Orleans) and will premiere sometime in 2018.

Max Greenfield is best known as Schmidt on the comedy New Girl. The show recently wrapped its sixth season on Fox, and it hasn't been clear if the show will be renewed or canceled. The producers and writers made sure that the ending would be happy if either were the case, so only time will tell the fate of the Zooey Deschanel-led comedy.

The exact premiere date of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in addition to Max Greenfield's role is still unknown, so make sure you check back in with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated. However, there's plenty of TV to look forward to between then and now, so check out our Summer TV Premiere Guide!
