Suits Apparently Planned For Meghan Markle's Exit A Long Time Ago
Meghan Markle was once best-known for her prominent role on USA's popular series Suits, but she has been making headlines over the past year due to her romance with Prince Harry of the U.K. The two recently announced their engagement, and it comes as no surprise that Markle is leaving Suits in order to marry Prince Harry. As it turns out, the Suits team won't need to scramble to find a way to write her character out of the series. Suits creator Aaron Korsh has revealed that he has been planning for her exit for a while:
Suits has had Meghan Markle on board from the very beginning as Rachel Zane, and her journey over the seven seasons so far has seen her advance in some big ways on the professional and personal fronts. Despite some setbacks -- not the least of which was her love interest going to prison -- she's in a pretty good position. Aaron Korsh's comments on BBC's Radio 4 indicate that we probably don't have to worry that Rachel will be hit by a bus when she's written out. Killing Rachel off just as her life is on the upswing would be a serious bummer for fans and a painful way to cap off her time on Suits.
Of course, the odds are pretty good that she'll get as much of a happily-ever-after as is possible for this show. Reports indicate that her co-star Patrick J. Adams (who plays her love interest) may also be bowing out of Suits following the Season 7 finale. If he does leave, it's very possible that Mike and Rachel will get to ride off into the sunset together. Both characters have had enough of a rough ride over the years -- both together and apart -- that they deserve a happy ending, especially since Meghan Markle may not be able to reprise her role as Rachel after leaving. Joining the Royal Family is probably a pretty full-time job.
All things considered, it's nice that Aaron Korsh was optimistic about Meghan Markle's chances at finding true love with Prince Harry. The couple was very private about their romance early on, and their official engagement was announced only recently. Prince Harry's proposal sounds pretty adorable, and the wedding will reportedly take place in May 2018.
As for Suits, the show is expected to return for the second half of Season 7 at some point in early 2018, and the final episode will serve to set up a spinoff centering around none other than Jessica Pearson.
