First Star Wars Resistance Trailer Brings Back Poe Dameron And Reveals Premiere Date

After the gigantic news that Disney was bringing Star Wars: The Clone Wars back for another season, it didn't seem likely that fans would get even more big TV news so soon afterward. But lo and behold, the very first trailer for Star Wars Resistance is here, along with the first big details about what fans can expect to see from the new animated show. Plus, viewers will get to watch Star Wars Resistance quite soon, as it will be premiering on Sunday, October 7, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Now without further ado...

At the heart of Star Wars Resistance is the young new hero seen in the trailer, Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono, voiced by Christopher Sean. Kaz is a pilot recruited by the Resistance as they enter into a top-secret mission to spy on the First Order, as its deadly threat looms large over the galaxy. Beyond just being the action-oriented lead, Kaz looks like he'll also be used for quite a bit of comic relief. Poe just can't seem to get away from wisecracking goons, I guess.

The trailer is a pretty pulse-pounding introduction to this new chapter in the Star Wars franchise, showing off a host of new characters voiced by some truly excellent actors, as well as one of the most popular characters from the current-era trilogy, crackshot pilot Poe Dameron. As fans no doubt heard, actor Oscar Isaac took on voicework duties to reprise the role he first brought to the big screen in The Force Awakens. It looks like he'll serve as Kaz's immediate superior through the young spy's time with the Resistance, which should make for some interesting conversations.

We've also got some big details about the October 7 series premiere, too. Titled "The Recruit," the one-hour opener has Poe and BB-8 sending newbie spy Kaz out to the Colossus, which is a gigantic aircraft refueling platform located on the outer rim of a water planet. Naturally, it's home to a host of new aliens, droids and various other beings, and Kaz will be going undercover as a mechanic living with Poe's old friend and veteran pilot Yeager (Scott Lawrence), who runs a starship repair shop. Fans can look forward to having fun with that crew, which includes Tam Ryvora (Suzie McGrath), Neeku Vozo (Josh Brener) and the busted-up astromech droid Bucket.

Kaz's mission has to be kept a secret from everyone he knows outside of the Resistance, of course, which isn't an easy task, considering he's also competing in high-risk sky races and dealing with the First Order under his assumed guise. Considering he's a Star Wars hero now, Kaz seems like he'll do just fine in his new role, but it's still a great idea that BB-8 will be there with him to keep things moving along accordingly.

Created by Dave Filoni, the Clone Wars writer who went on to create Star Wars Rebels and Forces of Destiny, Star Wars Resistance will also feature the vocal talents of underutilized film star Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, with Rachel Butera taking over the role of General Leia Organa. Other cast members include Mryna Velasco as Torra Doza, Donald Faison as Hype Fazon, Jim Rash as Flix and Bobby Moynihan as Orka.

Remember to tune into Disney Channel on Sunday, October 7, at 10:00 p.m. ET to see the grand premiere of Star Wars Resistance. To see what'll be popping up on the small screen before and after that time, though, you can head to our fall premiere schedule.
