The law is coming for Santa Clarita Diet! The Netflix series will be welcoming a new character for Season 3, and she will be played by a former NCIS: New Orleans star. The dark comedy has cast a law enforcement character for its third season. Shalita Grant, who played Sonja Percy on NCIS: New Orleans, has been cast in the recurring role of FBI agent Tess Rogers. And her story is set to be explosive.
It is a case that brings Shalita Grant's Agent Rogers to Santa Clarita. Rogers will be looking into the explosion that recently occurred at a fracking site in the area, per Deadline. One would imagine that explosion and the one that happened in the final minutes of the Season 2 finale are one and the same. Presumably, the investigation into its origins will take a prominent role in Season 3 given the casting of an FBI agent who will be investigating it.
As fans will recall, Sheila and Joel's daughter, Abby, was behind the explosion. It ended up inadvertently coming in handy for the Hammonds. When the blast occurred, it was taken by Anne as a sign from God confirming that Sheila was doing God's work. While it worked out in their favor at the time, an investigation that could lead to their daughter ending up in substantial legal trouble would be a big price for them to pay for that victory.
Suffice it to say, Sheila and Joel will probably have their hands full trying to outmaneuver the law in Season 3. As for Shalita Grant, the actress left NCIS: New Orleans at the end of Season 4. Grant joined the crime drama in its first season in a recurring capacity before being promoted to a series regular in Season 2. Whether her story on Santa Clarita Diet could pave the way for her to similarly be upped to a series regular remains to be seen.
Netflix greenlit the dark comedy for a third season back in May. The show follows the life and times of the Hammond family following a shocking development. Drew Barrymore's Sheila, who is the family's matriarch, turns into a zombie. With the support of her husband and daughter, Sheila makes her way in the world, as she and her family deal with her new dietary needs. The series premiered in 2017 and has been going strong ever since.
In keeping with Santa Clarita Diet's traditional release schedule, the next installment should bow sometime next year. Need something to watch while you await Santa Clarita Diet's return?
