In just a few years, Netflix has become a hub for fantastic, original programming. While the streaming service began this journey with dramas like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, there's been room made for all sorts of shows. On the comedy side, one of the most recent hits is Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. The half hour show follows a family after their matriarch suddenly becomes a flesh eating zombie, and they attempt to stay a normal family while also occasionally murdering and chopping up victims. Season 2 premiered just a month and change ago, and now Netflix has officially renewed Santa Clarita Diet for a third set of episodes.

This news is sure to be an exciting one for all the Santa Clarita Diet fans out there. The comedy series has consistently surprised and delighted fans with its mixture of shocking horror and tender family moments, and Season 2 left off on some major cliffhanger moments. Overall, the series has a way to continually surprise its audience, and it appears that viewership is strong enough to merit Season 3 after just a number of weeks.

In addition to the announcement of Santa Clarita Diet's renewal, Netflix released a fantastic video to get the fandom hyped about the news. Check it out below, and try not to smile.

Santa Clarita Diet's renewal announcement came fariyl quick for Netflix standards. After a few years of green lighting exciting new shows, the streaming service started to really get down to business. Netflix began cancelling projects that are too expensive or unpopular, completely taking its collaborators and subscribers by surprise in the process. Shows like Girlboss, The Get Down, and Sense8 were met with a quick end, although the latter will be given a final movie following fan outcry.

Of course, it's also impossible to tell just how popular Santa Clarita Diet is with Netflix subscribers. The streaming service's viewership is famously kept under wraps, so it's unclear how many millions of views its various TV shows and movies really pull in. Nielsen has begun to monitor the some numbers through streaming devices like Apple TV and gaming systems, although the organization lacks the additional sum through mobile devices and computers.

Santa Clarita Diet was renewed for a third season rather quickly after Season 2 was released in its entirety, although it's still not the fastest renewal the streaming service has seen. Marvel's Daredevil got the thumbs up for a sophomore season in less time, while Fuller House was renewed almost immediately.
