Spoilers ahead for the penultimate episode of Legends of Tomorrow Season 5, called "The One Where We're Trapped On TV."
Only one episode is left before Legends of Tomorrow heads into a long hiatus ahead of Season 6 on The CW, and "The One Where We're Trapped On TV" guarantees that the finale should be a doozy. While a lot of the penultimate episode was packed with Legends of Tomorrow shenanigans that were zany even by Legends of Tomorrow standards, the show also delivered a couple of pretty huge twists that sadly lead me to believe that one of the heroes needs to die in the finale.
Behrad was resurrected in the TV world Charlie constructed to stash her friends and save them, and Zari 1.0 now exists with her own body in the same timeline as Zari 2.0. That's not to say that "The One Where We're Trapped On TV" has a happy ending, though.
The odds are still stacked against the Legends as they try to figure out a 1984-esque timeline without the help of Charlie, and there's something just a little bit sinister about having Behrad and two Zaris in the mix at the same time. It's not supposed to be allowed in one timeline, and that can't lead to anything good.
Sure, Zari 1.0 and Nate got to joyfully reunite (and make out enthusiastically enough to cause a scene) while Behrad and Zari 2.0 were immensely relieved to find each other again, but something has to give. If you ask me, that "something" is going to have to be one of the Zaris or Charlie. The Legends can't get two people back without serious consequences, right?
Legends of Tomorrow producer and episode director Marc Guggenheim weighed in on the coming ramifications, saying this to TVLine:
Certainly, the big thing that this season has set up is the idea that Behrad and Zari 1.0 cannot coexist. And at the end of this episode, we see that we not only have Behrad and Zari 1.0, 2.0 is back as well. I think one of the big cliffhangers that [Episode] 14 leaves leading into [Episode] 15 is: How is all this going to resolve itself, especially in light of the rules that have been set down over the course of the past season? Without spoiling the finale, I’ll say it gets to a very emotional place, and a place that’s, quite frankly, really earned by all the characters, both 1.0, 2.0 and Behrad, and all the trials and tribulations that they’ve been through. It leads to, quite frankly, one of the most emotional moments of the series, in my opinion.
Of course Marc Guggenheim didn't spell out what's going to happen in the Season 5 finale, but a "very emotional place" doesn't sound like a 100% happy place, and my money is on somebody being killed off to balance the scales a bit. Selfishly, I'm hoping that one of the Zaris dies. I love them both despite my original reservations about Zari 2.0, but one Zari dying wouldn't mean Tala Ashe would have to leave Legends of Tomorrow.
Behrad dying (again) would mean viewers lose Shayan Sobhian shortly after getting him back again, and Charlie dying might have to mean the departure of Maisie Richardson-Sellers despite Legends finding a way to keep her on after Amaya's departure. If I have to say goodbye to either Zari 1.0 or Zari 2.0 to keep Tala Ashe, Sobhian, and Richardson-Sellers into Season 5, I'll take it!
All of this said, there is no guarantee that one of the heroes is 100% going to die or, if somebody does die, it will be Behrad, Charlie, and/or a Zari. I don't want to go too hard on a prediction, given that this is the show that managed to end a season with a giant Beebo. Anything can happen on Legends of Tomorrow, so who knows? Still, if Legends of Tomorrow is going to stick to one of the relatively few solid rules it has set for itself, I think one of those four is going to have to die.
