Here's What Disney+ Is Adding In July 2020

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Here we are at the end of June but if you're still stuck at home in some version of self-isolation, you've probably blown through everything new that Disney+ added this month, and that means it's time to look forward to next month. And July is looking to be quite a "hot" month on Disney+ as your living room is about to become the room where it happens.

The biggest new edition to Disney+ in July, possibly the biggest new addition since The Mandalorian launched the streaming service, is that the filmed production of the stage musical Hamilton, which was originally set to be theatrically released in October of 2021, will instead arrive on Disney+ on July 3, making your Fourth of July weekend festivities that much more patriotic, and also rhythmic.

However, that's just the beginning. At the end of June, Disney+ surprised us by dropping Josh Trank's Fantastic Four movie on the service as the first of the 20th Century Fox Marvel films to arrive on the Disney platform. Several more of those films will be arriving on Disney+ over the next couple months, including X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse in July.

Early July will also bring us Dwayne Johnson's remake of Race to Witch Mountain, which will give you something to watch since Jungle Cruise has been put off until 2021. The next week will see the debut of Solo: A Star Wars Story on Disney+, which means that very soon you'll be able to marathon the entire Star Wars theatrical experience on Disney+.

In the second part of July we have even more new content to check out as well as some great classic stuff. July 17 will mark the 65th anniversary of Disneyland. It was also supposed to mark the park's reopening date following a closure that started back in March. While the reopen won't happen, we can experience it vicariously when we watch "A Pre-Opening Report from Disneyland," an episode of the Disneyland television series that aired just prior to the park's 1955 opening, which ultimately changed the world.

The end of the month will give us a massive amount of National Geographic content if documentaries are your thing, but we'll also get the travelogue series Rogue Trip and the first original Muppets material in several years, something a lot of fans have truly been waiting for. July will also see the final Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, make the jump from Netflix to Disney+, putting that entire franchise on the service as well.

Then Disney+ will end July in the same way it entered it, with a huge musical release. July 31 will see Black is King, the new "visual album" from the cultural force that is Beyonce. Based on The Lion King: The Gift, Beyonce's album inspired by the remake of the Disney classic, Black is King simply looks unlike anything on Disney+ to date, thus potentially broadening the appeal of the entire service.
