Will Star Trek: Discovery's Tilly Still Want To Be A Captain In Season 3? Here's What The Actress Said

Tilly Star Trek: Discovery CBS All Access

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 is coming this fall, and with its arrival comes a lot of changes to the franchise. The series that started in the past will pick up in the future in an era untouched by any prior series, leaving a lot of avenues for the show and its characters to grow and expand.

While the jump of the Discovery crew nearly 1000 years into the future may change up the goals and aspirations of some, other characters will continue to pursue the things they wanted prior to time travel. When asked at the Star Trek panel during Comic-Con@Home if Tilly's still interested in being a captain in Starfleet now that the crew is in uncharted territory, actress Mary Wiseman said the following:

I think so. I think there are some pretty big speed bumps in Season 2 on that road, but I think that’s always her pie in the sky. Reaching the zenith of leadership within Starfleet. You’ll get to see more about that journey in Season 3. We’re also really on the edge of the unknown so I think all of our ideas about what the future holds and who we are and who we want to be are going to be transformed.

Tilly had been accepted into a special program for Ensigns wishing to advance in Starfleet in Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery but had some struggles under pressure. She began to have hallucinations of a former friend appearing to her during her studies, though it was later revealed to be a being attempting to communicate with Tilly via the Mycelial network. Tilly's outbursts due to the situation were forgiven, but her progress in the program was never touched on past that point.

Tilly's endgame is to be a Starfleet captain, though it remains to be seen if that's a feasible reality in the new world Star Trek: Discovery has arrived in. Starfleet may not be what it was back when the Discovery crew jumped, and possibly not even in a position of significant power in the galaxy. Protecting the secrets of humanity from anyone who wishes to do harm may be harder than planned, especially if the Discovery crew is tasked with defending it mainly on their own.

I think it's safe to speculate that with the Discovery crew in such a unique position, there's going to be some room for advancement. Tilly has proven herself capable time and time again to the ship's senior members of the ship, so perhaps she'll find herself in a better position heading even as Season 3 begins.

Star Trek: Discovery returns to CBS All Access in October for Season 3. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more on the upcoming season, and more happenings in the world of television and movies.
