Kelly Clarkson is back! The American Idol winner spoke out on her talk show and called 2020 a “dumpster fire,” and she is not stopping there. She went on to address her divorce in her return to TV. During the quarantine, Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock. The decision took many fans by surprise and subsequently led to a lot of speculation.

The cause of the split reportedly stems from the stress of quarantine straining an already stretched marriage. On The Kelly Clarkson Show, the star and host shared her opinions on 2020 as a whole, saying:

Let's just get this out of the way. 2020 has been a dumpster fire. Yep, just all the word[s] I can't say on this show, just piled together, and it's on fire. That's really what it feels like.

No need to mince words! Kelly Clarkson went right off the top, explaining that the year has been a bonfire in a trash receptacle. Leave it to Clarkson to keep things real. Following the announcement that she would be filling in for an injured Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent, Clarkson bluntly responded to a critical fan message that blamed Clarkson’s burgeoning career for her divorce. Speaking of which, Clarkson said:

2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn't see anything coming that came. But what I'm dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts. . . . So I'm usually very open, and I usually talk about everything, but in this case I will talk a little bit here and there about how it affects me personally, but probably won't go too far into it because, you know, I'm a mama bear, and my kids come first. Although I do love you all.

There you have it. Kelly Clarkson may make a passing mention of her divorce here and there. Otherwise, she is not going to be wading into the nitty-gritty of everything out of respect for her children with Brandon Blackstock.

It is understandable that Kelly Clarkson wants to use discretion when it comes to any divorce talk. Plus, Clarkson has gone out of her way to keep good vibes going, sending love to her estranged husband after her and The Kelly Clarkson Show’s Emmy win. Clarkson has not ruled out discussing her marriage split altogether though, and she wants people to know how she is doing, saying:

Everybody keeps asking, 'Are you okay? Are you okay?' And I am! The answer is yes. . . . So, I probably won't speak about it too much, but you definitely will hear it. Musically, probably.

While Kelly Clarkson does not intend to get too public about her divorce on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she might provide insight musically. The singer/songwriter (and potential EGOT winner) shared that is where she usually lets her emotions fly. Fans may be able to expect to learn her thoughts and feelings around the split when her next album drops.

For now, fans can enjoy catching up with Kelly Clarkson on her talk show. The show has headed back into production with a significant change. There is no in-studio audience. Instead, fans are joining in virtually, which gave Clarkson someone to bounce off of her “dumpster fire” musings. People love The Kelly Clarkson Show, so that is at least one part of 2020 not to throw into the trash!

As for her divorce, from what Kelly Clarkson was willing to share, it sounds like her split from Brandon Blackstock did not just take fans by surprise. The talk show host also indicated that she did not see it coming. So, whatever led to her decision to divorce her husband of nearly a decade seems to have come out of relatively nowhere during the coronavirus quarantine.
