Just call her Candace “Candid” Bure. The actress has been known to respond to followers’ complaints in the past. This week, Candace Cameron Bure chose to address how she chooses the people she follows on social media. This came after the Aurora Teagarden actress caused enough of a stir by following both red and blue political party members in the U.S. that she felt the need to explain to her “disappointed” fans why she chooses to follow people from different political focal points.
Candace Cameron Bure is very active on social media, particularly Instagram. On that platform, she follows a wide range of personalities, including but not limited to Candace Owens, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and more. After some commenters spotted what they felt were political discrepancies, they also apparently felt the need to tell Bure they were unhappy with her choices. I read several comments from people, and I think there's quite a bit of new followers, so thank you if you're still around for following me here. People that were disappointed or told me that they were unfollowing me because of the people I choose to follow on Instagram. And it's always strange to me because I follow a very broad range of people—politically, within my work industry and then personal friends and things I like.
Candace Cameron Bure wants to make one other thing clear about the people whom she follows as well: Just because she follows a broad spectrum of people doesn’t mean she endorses some or all of their ideas. Bure isn’t someone who wants to fall down the rabbit hole of one way of thinking on topics. She tells her fans she wants to hear ideas from across the political spectrum so that she can be informed about how people feel about the issues that affect everyday Americans. She also spoke further about this “endorsement” idea some of her fans seem to have.
But a follow does not mean an endorsement. A follow does not mean I agree with everything they say and do. It just means I follow a broad range of people so that I have perspective. I want to know what's going on in the world, I want to hear different sides of the argument. I follow people in entertainment that I don't necessarily agree with or act the same way, but I want to hear what our society, what culture is dishing out.
The key to being able to follow people with many differing points of view, according to Candace Cameron Bure, is to not let your “blood boil.” She notes she doesn’t “get angry” even if she disagrees with what she’s reading. With that in mind:
I follow left and right, but it doesn't make my blood boil. I don't get angry at it. So maybe it's healthy for some of you not to follow people you disagree with. But it doesn't upset me, it just gives me perspective.
At the end of the day Candace Cameron Bure is entitled to follow anyone she wants to on social media. Her followers, too, have that choice. So, instead of making a stink out of her husband touching his wife’s boob or calling Bure out for the recent maskless protests her brother Kirk Cameron put on (and she did not attend), she seems to be inviting those fans to unfollow her rather than getting riled up.
Celebrities often hear from their fans on social media. Sometimes that can lead to great interactions with the fans. Other times it can cause issues. Trolls have even been the cause of myriad celebrities ultimately leaving platforms like Instagram and Twitter. As for Candace Cameron Bure, it seems as if she's sticking with social media for now, but if following her is not your thing, you can always stick to watching her in totally vanilla, (generally) controversy-free Hallmark movies.
