Although Becky Lynch is a wrestling legend for her performances with the WWE, the 34-year-old Irish wrestling superstar is making news now for a much sadder reason than her successes in the ring. Lynch's father has passed away, and she took to social media to share a touching tribute to her dad with a series of sweet photos and a lengthy message about what he meant to her.
Becky Lynch's father passed away on the morning of Thursday, March 11. She didn't reveal the cause of death for her father, but she used an Instagram post the share some of her fondest memories and the best qualities of her father. Lynch posted:
Becky Lynch didn't hold back in expressing what her father meant to her, sharing that he was always proud of his children "no matter what" and for who they were. According to Lynch, he loved her and her brother, also a wrestler who goes by the name of Gonzo De Mondo, "unconditionally," and embraced that his daughter was being herself in her "weird teenage years." He even supported without ever doubting her decision to become a wrestler, which likely wouldn't be the case for all dads when it comes to their daughters.
The WWE superstar went on to praise her father for the man he was in general, beyond his role as great dad to her and her brother. Praising him for his intellect, creativity, and status as an inventor, her words are full of warmth in memorializing him. He even inspired her to keep a diary, which turned into a habit that she has kept up for nearly three decades now.
Becky Lynch did express regret that her father was never able to meet her daughter. Lynch gave birth to daughter Roux who she shares with fiancé (and fellow WWE star) Seth Rollins in December 2020, sharing the first photo of the little girl on Instagram on December 7. Her father evidently was never able to meet little Roux, but Lynch is confident that they would have taken to each other.
The selection of photos that Becky Lynch chose for her tribute to her dad show them at different stages of life, from Lynch's infancy all the way through to her wrestling career.
