New Dexter Revival Video Gives Fans First Look At Michael C. Hall Back In Character

dexter scruff beard finale

It's been nearly 8 years since Michael C. Hall's Dexter wrapped up its partially acclaimed eight-season run, with that awkward final season and awful series finale going a long way to make fans forget how good those early seasons were. But Showtime is trying to make lightning strike twice in the same plastic-covered place with the upcoming limited series revival, which will hopefully bring the vigilante serial killer back to his glory days. If the teaser is anything to go by, the new episodes gave its star something to smile about.

Isn't it awesome to see Michael C. Hall's grinning face again? Well, I mean, the actor has obviously been in other roles where he smiled since Dexter ended, not to mention interviews and things. But I obviously mean in direct relation to Hall being back in the role of Dexter Morgan. He obviously won't be back in the Miami sun when he returns, but it looks like he shaved that scruffy beard that he was strangely rocking when the series' first run ended, so let's all give thanks for that, since it makes it that much easier to see that killer smile. Unlike that mess below.

As awesome as it is to see Dexter again in a new context, it is unfortunate that these early Dexter teasers are so short and sweet and not very helpful about trying to discern plot points and clues. Thankfully, we do already know a little about what returning showrunner Clyde Phillips and his creative team will be bringing to the table. We know that the new episodes will take place in a town called Iron Lake, which will present Dexter with a new set of challenges in the form of a beloved local.

Iron Lake's unofficial mayor Kurt Caldwell will serve as the season's main antagonist. The owner of a local truck stop and a variety of the big rigs that use said truck stop, Kurt will be portrayed by the great Clancy Brown, of Shawshank Redemption and SpongeBob SquarePants fame, which makes it easy to understand why he's such a people-person, even if he's likely hiding some dark secrets. Plus, people have a way of getting hurt whenever they get in Kurt's way. So Dexter should take care not to do such things, even though he definitely will.

While we obviously know a bit about Clancy Brown's character, and we know that The Morning Show's David Magidoff will be on board as a new cop in Iron Lake whose timidness gives way to pure badassery when the situation calls for it. So his first run-in with Dexter should be quite interesting. Other cast members for the new season include Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott.

While it doesn't have a release date locked down just yet, Dexter will air its revival season on Showtime at some point this fall. Here's hoping it ties into the Halloween season with ease.
