I think there are probably only a few people in the known world who are completely unaware of Friends. The sitcom juggernaut ran for 10 seasons, turning its stars into some of the most recognizable folks on the planet, and left us with several pop culture touchstones that people still think about today. One of the aspects of the show that fans still discuss is the winding romance of David Schwimmer's Ross and Jennifer Aniston's Rachel. Now, after rumors have started to swirl about the former co-stars dating in real life, Schwimmer has revealed the truth about his relationship with Aniston.

So, you might be wondering why, when Friends has been off of the air for a whopping 17 years, people are just now beginning to think that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer are real-life lobsters. Well, we can blame the recent HBO Max Friends: The Reunion special for that, where the entire cast reconnected and the former Rachel and Ross opened up for the first time about having more than friendly feelings for one another while working together. But, a rep for Schwimmer recently told The Sun that there is "no truth" to the rumors of him and Aniston dating right now.

I know, I know! You're all bummed! It'll be OK eventually. Just remember that you went for well over two decades without the knowledge that David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston even had real pants feelings for each other, and you were just fine. Now, let's get back to that Friends: The Reunion special, which set off all of this talk in the first place.

During the reunion, which saw Schwimmer, Aniston, and their other co-stars Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry revisit the sets, do script readings, and enjoy a lot of reminiscing about the past, host James Corden noted that it seemed "inconceivable" that none of the cast were romantical off camera. That's when Schwimmer revealed that he did have feelings for Aniston, and said "I had a major crush on Jen," with her replying "It was reciprocated." GASP!

While the on-screen on / off / on again couple never got together in real life because one of them was always in a relationship, this reveal led to the rumors of them now beginning to date, with both Schwimmer and Aniston currently being single. The supposed gossip really took off when an unnamed source spoke to Closer just a few days ago, and said that the pair "began texting immediately after filming," with Schwimmer flying from his home in New York to spend time with Aniston at her place in Los Angeles.

The source had also noted that they'd been having cozy dinners cooked by Aniston at her home, and had supposedly been spotted at one of her favorite vineyards in Santa Barbara, noting that, reportedly, "it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them."

Even though the rep for David Schwimmer didn't say that any of these particulars were explicitly untrue, it's not impossible that he and Jennifer Aniston had feelings for each other back in the day and that those feelings are now just pure friendship. They can hang out and not have it be anything romantic. So, while many of you are probably annoyed that your hopes for a real life Friends romance have been dashed, at least we know that everyone is still very friendly in real life, which is a lot more than many casts could say after so many years.

You can revisit the rom-com glory that was Ross and Rachel, and watch David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston's confession on Friends: The Reunion streaming on HBO Max. For more to watch in the coming weeks, check out our 2021 fall TV schedule!
