A week ago millions of people were introduced to a fantastic a cappella style rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” on Glee. It’s become an instant hit; garnering more downloads in its first week than any other remix from the show. So, you think you enjoyed that? Then perhaps you can get behind NBC’s returning music show The Sing-Off. A show that features musical groups battling it out with just one rule: there are no instruments.
The only reason I initially bothered with The Sing-Off last year was because Ben Folds was involved as a judge. Then I got a little hooked on the a cappella situation, checking out college groups on YouTube, and even buying the Ben Folds a cappella album. That’s fantastic, and a must own for any Folds fans out there.
Below you’ll find some footage of the new groups hitting the stage for season two, including a group of guys doing Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance.” I’ve actually seen them do the whole song on YouTube and if they’re what we can expect from this season, then maybe…just maybe, The Sing-Off could be a lot of fun.
The Sing-Off will premiere on Monday, December 6 at 8:00 PM ET with a two hour show. It will run for five episodes before crowning a winner. Short and sweet is just the way a show like this should be. Not long and drawn out for two months before we even get to the competition….ahem, I’m looking at you American Idol.
