Becki Newton Signed On For CBS Pilot

I was just commenting the other day about how I wished Becki Newton was back on TV and now it seems the universe may deliver. While NBC’s Love Bites still doesn’t have a premiere date, word is, the Ugly Betty star has been locked in for a CBS pilot role.

According to Deadline, Newton, who played Amanda on ABC’s Ugly Betty, has been cast in an untitled CBS pilot (formerly titled Homegrown) by Jeff and Jackie Filgo. Apparently (and unsurprisingly), Newton has been in high demand, with several pilots hoping to reel her in. In the CBS pilot, Newton will play a single mom to a twelve-year-old son. She and her son live with her father (the lead character), his wife and his recently widowed mother.

As for Newton’s current series, Love Bites was picked up last year and has yet to air (or even given a premiere date). Newton’s position in the CBS pilot is in second position to the NBC show. Deadline speculates that it probably won’t get picked up for a second season, which would free Newton to do the CBS pilot, should it get picked up.
