Daredevil Eyeing Jason Statham For A Villainous Role

UPDATE:According to Comic Book Resources, Marvel Television has debunked the rumor of Jason Statham joining the cast of Daredevil claiming that there is "no truth to it at all". More info sure to come.

And here we thought that Jason Statham getting slapped in the face by Jimmy Fallon was going to be today’s biggest Statham-related story. Boy, was that way off-target. If rumors are to be believed – and we’re really, really, really hoping this one has weight – then Jason Statham may be the latest actor to join the Marvel universe for Netflix’s first superhero series Daredevil as none other than the mega-villain Bullseye. Now that “off-target” pun is funny, right? Right?

The ridiculously promising rumor comes to us from the superhero-friendly Latino Review, which says that one “trusted source at Marvel’s new TV production offices” passed on this exciting tidbit. After the magnificent menacing calm of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk anchoring the underworld in Season 1, Daredevil could definitely use a manic wild card for its next season, and picturing Jason Statham as the always on-point Bullseye is almost too much to handle. Although we’re hoping that they avoid going overboard this go-around with the character’s look.

Statham would not only add some Brit levity to the criminal element on the show, but can you imagine how good he would be in those fantastic fight sequences? As an actor whose name is virtually synonymous with balls-out action, he would barely have to change anything in his routine to get ready for this role. Except he might have to get used to flinging things like playing cards and other projectiles instead of shooting guns.

Back before Marvel regained the rights to Daredevil and moved forward with the TV series, Statham was one of the names in the running for another big screen take on the character, which presumably wouldn’t have been as polarizing as Ben Affleck’s performance. Similarly, there’s almost no way his portrayal of Bullseye would cause as much of a commotion as Colin Farrell did in the film. Hell, Statham could take over Rosario Dawson’s role and it wouldn’t cause as much of a backlash as Colin Farrell.

Bullseye is one of the villains that is expected to enter Season 2, and it’s been rumored that Mr. Fear and Mysterio are going to be showing up as well. Just recently, audition videos came out as alleged proof of Elektra’s presence in the upcoming narrative. So if they’re seeking someone as big as Statham for Bullseye, I can only hope they’re looking at actors of equal caliber for those other roles.

Daredevil Season 2 is set to begin filming in the next couple of months for a debut in the first half of 2016, so expect more casting news to be announced in the very near future.
