New Daredevil Moving Image Shows Murdock In Danger

Daredevil Season 2 is exactly four weeks away from premiering, which means Netflix is stepping up their marketing for the show. The new trailer released at the beginning of the week offered a lot of new moments for fans to chew on, and now smaller teasers are coming out that focus on specific moments this season. In this video, Matt Murdock finds himself in a spot of trouble caused by a certain gun-toting vigilante competitor.

As you can see in this teaser from the Daredevil Twitter account, the Man Without Fear has been chained to a chimney and is struggling to get free. Meanwhile, you can hear a gun cocking in the background, its owner being Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher. All of this, along with the caption “Battle lines have been drawn,” clearly show Daredevil in a tough spot. The trailer is eerily similar to the moment during Garth Ennis’ Punisher #3 back in 2001, when Castle tied Matt up in a similar way, but gave him a gun with one bullet in it. This was so Matt had the option of stopping Castle from carrying out a hit on a mob boss, forcing him to become a killer to save a life. Only this time, Matt doesn’t even have a weapon in his hand. It’s just your average binding, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be escaping anytime soon.

While Matt was Hell’s Kitchen only active vigilante in Daredevil Season 1, Season 2 will see him dealing with Punisher. Unlike Matt, whose moral outlook prevents him from taking another life (not that he doesn’t struggle with that), Frank Castle has no problems snuffing out the bad guys, and their different methods will eventually cause them to butt heads. Several months back, an image was released of Castle confronting the chained-up Daredevil, and the recent trailer expanded on this by showing Castle criticizing his rival for only being a “half-measure.” Daredevil hits the bad guys, but they eventually get back up, while Punisher makes sure they stay down.

Aside from the reappearance of Matt’s former flame, Elektra Natchios, Punisher will be the main source of conflict in Daredevil Season 2. After his family was murdered by criminals, the only thing Castle has to live for is making sure all evil scum wind up dead, and he won’t let anyone stop him. In Matt’s case, Punisher’s appearance will cause him to question if his crimefighting crusade is truly effective. Are his actions in Hell’s Kitchen making a difference, or will he have to bring himself to Punisher’s level to enact real change? That’s the quandary our crimson-garbed hero will find himself in this year.

All 13 episodes of Daredevil Season 2 will premiere Friday, March 18 on Netflix.
