The First Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer Is Here, And It Looks Great
Moviegoers will have to wait until May 2017 to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but Marvel isn’t leaving us empty-handed during the hiatus. The House of Ideas has put together a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series debuting this fall on Disney XD, and now the first official trailer for the show has been released. Check it out!
While the promo is brief, it does give a good idea of what the series will be offering: a fun tone and plenty of action. Much of the latter will no doubt come from their weapons enthusiast Rocket, voiced by Trevor Devall, whose suggestion for the team’s battle cry is “Let’s blow stuff up!” Also included in the trailer is an action shot of Kevin Michael Richardson’s Groot, a snippet of Will Friedle’s Star-Lord voice, and quick looks at Gamora. Oddly enough, Drax is nowhere to be seen. In the coming weeks, hopefully Marvel will release a longer trailer to give fans young and old a better idea of what to expect.
Although this is the first official trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel showed test footage for the series last year at New York Comic-Con, which featured rougher versions of Rocket and Star-Lord.
When the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series kicks off, its protagonists will discover an artifact keyed to Star-Lord’s DNA that reveals a treasure map. Learning that the prize at the end of the journey is the Cosmic Seed, the band of rogues sets off the find the Seed and destroy it so its power can’t be used for sinister purposes. Along the way, they will run into characters from Marvel’s cosmic universe, like Thanos, Loki, The Collector and even Cosmo the Space Dog.
Although the animated series is intended to follow the events of the 2014 film, director James Gunn has said that it isn’t a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so don’t expect any of the events in the series to be referenced in the 2017 presumed blockbuster. This will be the fourth Marvel animated series currently airing, following Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
You can catch a sneak peek of the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series on Disney XD Saturday September 5 at 9 p.m. EST, followed by the premiere on Saturday, September 26 at 9:30 p.m. EST. Fans can also look forward to other multi-platform content being released this August.
