At The Movies To Return On PBS In January

When news came down in March that At The Movies would be going off the air, it was a major blow to the movie-watching community. People had been tuning into the show since the 80s and Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel were established as Gods in the world of film critique. It was a dark day to say the least, but it was a dark day that didn't last.

A press release has been issued (via The Chicago Sun Times) that Roger Ebert will be resurrecting the show as Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies on PBS. The show will begin airing in January 2011 and, in addition to weekly film reviews, it will also feature "coverage of New Media, special segments on classics, on-demand viewing and genres, and an extended website." The show will be co-hosted by Christy Lemire, film critic of The Associated Press, and Elvis Mitchell of National Public Radio and feature contributions by Kim Morgan and Omar Moore. And yes, "thumbs up/thumbs down" will return.

This is truly a day that movie fans should celebrate. At The Movies is one of the greatest treasures of the modern cinematic world and it is beautiful to see it not go down without a fight. That said, Ben Lyons shouldn't be allowed within 100 miles of the set.
