Star Wars: The Force Awakens Characters Are Going LEGO For New Adventures, Get The Details

Not even a full day after announcing a new trip to the Star Wars universe through a new animated series, Disney XD is already heading back to a galaxy far away for an interesting new project. LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises will be a series of short films that will revisit the insanely popular characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens for a batch of all new high-flying adventures. And what’s more, you can already set your DVR for the first one.

That’s right, LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises is set to premiere on the kid-friendly cable network on Monday, February 15, and it will focus on the timeline just prior to the First Order’s attack on Jakku. The first adventure will feature everyone’s favorite Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in an episode titled “Poe to the Rescue.” The short will center on Poe as he attempts to save Admiral Ackbar from the clutches of Captain Plasma. (At least we won’t have to wait that long to see her again.) The episode will also feature the evil bastard Kylo Ren, the red-armed C-3PO and the adorable droid BB-8.

I mean, really, though. What better way is there to up the cute quotient for BB-8 than by turning it into a LEGO droid?

Currently, no specific directions for future episodes have been revealed, and it’s not even clear when the next one will air. Regardless, our excitement will certainly hold over until it gets here. Beyond the familiar faces popping up in this first installment, LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises will feature most of the rest of your favorite characters from The Force Awakens, including Han Solo, Finn, Rey, and Maz Kanata. I can’t wait.

Considering the success of both The Force Awakens’ box office and Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels, it’s no real surprise that a path was forged to get the feature’s celebrated characters on the small screen. Unfortunately, Disney wasn’t very forthcoming in their press release about who will be voicing Poe, Finn and the rest. It’s not likely the film’s cast would be involved, but it’s certainly possible.

Disney XD, which is also the home to several Marvel animated series, just announced the upcoming full-fledged series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, which is set to premiere this summer. The network also put out the miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales last year. Here’s hoping this continued brand-crossing leads to some unforgettable animation in the coming months.

Remember, LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises will debut on Disney XD on Monday, February 15, at 8:00 p.m. ET., right after the series finale of Gravity Falls. It will hopefully be a good way to put off mourning that brilliant cartoon for a few minutes.
