Possibly giant Walking Dead spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.
The crazy anxiety-ride that is AMC’s The Walking Dead has ended, leaving a less than ideal taste in people’s mouths. After essentially teasing and building up Negan’s arrival for half of the season, we finally got to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan make his terrifying debut. Unfortunately for us, this entrance quickly turned sour as the character death we’d been promised ended up being a bogus cliffhanger. As soon as the episode ended, fans began to debate who was on the receiving end of Negan’s bat, Lucille. Well, one fan and youtuber seems to have cracked the code, and has created a video to share his findings with us. Check it out.
There it is people. According to this video the character most likely to have met Lucille is none other than everyone’s favorite pizza boy, Glenn Rhee. Let’s break down how he came to this conclusion, and what it might mean for The Walking Dead as a whole.
Slaykone, the youtuber who posted the above video, first and foremost uses an image of the entire 11 character who are on their knees. Since Negan is playing his sick game of eenie-meenie-miney-moe, we’re going to need the proper order of our heroes to try and find a conclusion. From there, he figured out Negan’s somewhat bizarre order of the game. Rather than going from one end of the line to the other, Negan starts in the middle with Rick, and moved to his right through Abraham. Then he has to run all the way to the other side of the line near Glenn and Rosita.
While watching the episode, things start to get less straight-forward as Negan’s game continues. Shots become more convoluted and somewhat random as close-ups of potential victims are mixed together to give the viewer more and more anxiety. However, Slaykone uses the group shot, rather than the footage, to track Negan’s movements across the 11 survivors. Using this pattern, he determines that the only two possible victims could be Glenn or Eugene, who are on opposite ends of the line.
Things get even more detail oriented when examining Negan’s monologue. Before killing his victim, he instructs the rest of the survivors not to move or speak, or else he will tear Carl’s other eye out and feed it to Rick. When referencing Carl, he gestures to his right, which means he’d have to be on Glenn’s side of the line. Sorry Glenn.
Glenn’s death seems pretty logical at this point. His comic book counterpart goes out in the same exact way- by Lucille. Losing one of the original five Atlanta survivors would be a huge change in The Walking Dead’s dynamic. Additionally, this would give Maggie’s character even more room to change and grow into the leader she’s becoming.
Plus this could be AMC’s way of atoning for that whole dumpster debacle.
Alas, we’ll have to wait until The Walking Dead returns to get any true answers. We’ll continue to update you on all things Walking Dead as they become public.
