Xenonauts, X-Com Successor Joins Steam's Early Access Program

The spiritual successor to the original X-Com from Micropose has officially become available for early access on Steam. For $19.99 gamers can join in on the early builds of Xenonauts and offer feedback and development direction for the developers.

Goldhawk Interactive first and foremost want to make it known that...

Xenonauts is still in development and will continue to receive free updates until it is fully complete. Most of the key features are already in place and the game can certainly be played in its current state, but it has a few rough edges like as inconsistent game balance, placeholder UI elements and the occasional missing art assets.

This means that they want everyone to know before hand that you're paying into the early development of the game. Some of you might question what good that is, but it gives the community a lot of stomping ground to voice concerns, opinions and bug reports to help the developer enhance the game as it nears completion.

I really love this concept and if I had more time I would definitely participate. This method of getting the developer to keep their ears close to the ground can only work in favor of the community. It also means that unlike some titles that eventually get released while lacking a lot of polish, gamers can help shape and sculpt the direction of the development so the important gaming mechanics are ironed out first.

Anyway, a little bit about Xenonauts: It's a turn-based tactical strategy game with RPG mechanics, perma-death for the soldiers and fully destructible tile-based environments. It's X-Com in a nutshell.

You like what you read? Well, feel free to learn more or order early by visiting the official Steam page. As mentioned above, the game is not finished, so you would be promptly buying into an early access build.
