Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 May Bring Back A Beloved Marvel Character

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done an impeccable job of carving out a niche for even the most obscure Marvel characters. From Iron Man to Star-Lord, the MCU has become a welcoming home to any character hailing from deep within the Marvel lore. As a result of this, director James Gunn may soon bring one of the all-time most iconic – and notorious – Marvel characters back to the silver screen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Of course, I’m talking about none other than Howard the Duck.

According to a brand new report from On Location Vacations, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has apparently just filmed a scene involving the notorious Marvel character Howard the Duck. The report didn’t indicate the capacity of Howard the Duck’s part in the upcoming sequel; all it tells is us that writer/director James Gunn may have found a way to incorporate the character into a particular scene.

Despite the fact that he isn’t a superhero, Howard the Duck has become legendary for his 1986 movies – often called one of the worst comic book adaptations ever made – which effectively put the character on ice for decades, until Gunn incorporated him into the first film. If audiences respond well to Howard the Duck’s appearances in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, it remains entirely possible that he could soon see new life in his own solo adventure.

If these rumors turn out to be true, then it would mean that the character’s previous appearance during the end credits of the original Guardians of the Galaxy can in fact be considered canonical, rather than just a throwaway piece of fan service. In case you didn’t stick around to sit through the credits of the original Guardians of the Galaxy, here’s Howard the Duck’s much talked about return to the silver screen.

In addition to the Howard the Duck reveal, the report also shed further light on the possibility that Sylvester Stallone may in fact have joined the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast – and that his costume resembles that of Judge Dredd. It appears that James Gunn has an affinity for helping out once defunct icons from the 1980s and throwing them into his movies.

We won’t know for sure if Howard the Duck will really return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe until the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel hits theaters next summer, but we’re more than willing to keep our fingers crossed until this finally happens. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will blast into theaters on May 5, 2017. Stay tuned for more details. Until then, you can test your knowledge with some trivia below...
