Jon Amiel’s dark comedy The Poisoners has managed to secure itself a strong cast of leading ladies. Joining the film, which is set to begin shooting in Ireland and Germany this summer, are Emily Watson, Anna Friel, and Lena Headey.

Written by Paul Billing, The Poisoners takes place during World War I and follows a group of women who are left behind in an English farming community and find themselves involved with German prisoners of war. The Hollywood Reporter posted word of the casting, stating that Watson, Friel and Headey join German actors Ken Duken, Hanno Koffler and Alexander Scheer.

?Emily Watson’s no stranger to dark humor, with films like Punch-Drunk Love, Corpse Bride and Cold Souls among her list of credits. Meanwhile, Lena Heady and Anna Friel have spread their considerable talent between the big and small screens. Friel’s notable roles include a starring part in the unfortunately short-lived dark dramedy Pushing Daisies. More recently, she starred opposite Bradley Cooper in Limitless. As for Headey, she’s been making a name for herself in strong female roles, having starred in 300, Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and currently, as the dark and intimidating Cersei Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Given their varying backgrounds, it should be interesting to see the dynamic between these women in The Poisoners.
