Just last week, we shared the news that three actors had been cast in the upcoming feature adaptation of Cassandra Clare's popular young adult novel The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Joining previously cast leads Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower - who are set to play Clary Fray and Jace Wayland respectively - is Game of Thrones' Lena Headey and Mad Men's Jared Harris. And Godfrey Gao has taken the role of Magnus Bane. Now it looks like the film may have its Alec.

The Mortal Instruments series follows Clary Fray, a modern-day teen who learns she's the descendent of a long line of demon hunters. She's soon drawn into a dangerous world she didn't know existed. If all goes as planned, the film will arrive in theaters next August (8/23/2013). Today Just Jared reported that Kevin Zegers has been cast in the role of Alec in the film. Like Clary and Jace, Alec Lightwood is a Shadowhunter. He's also the sibling of Isabelle, who - according to what author Cassandra Clare posted on her blog last month - is set to be played by French actress Jemima West (The Borgias). Clare has yet to post an update commenting on Zegers' casting, but assuming it's all set in stone, it seems likely that she'll weigh in on this update soon enough.

Kevin Zegers' previous credits include a part in the recent miniseries Titanic: Blood and Steel, as well as a recurring role as Damian Daalgard in Gossip Girl. Going back a bit further, he played the part of Terry in Dawn of the Dead (2004).
