Stan Lee's Streak Of Marvel Movie Cameos Is About To End

This is a first. Marvel honcho and general superhero icon Stan "The Man" Lee has been dropping cameos in countless Marvel Studios movies for years. But he says he finally found a Marvel movie in which he CAN’T cameo. We’ll let Lee explain.

That’s Lee on a video podcast DweebCast, talking about all things Marvel. He addresses his new television show, The Mighty 7, a reality-based animated program. He opens up about the popularity of Tom Hiddleston. And when asked if he’ll cameo in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he admits:

No, I’m afraid not. This the one group I didn’t create. I didn’t write Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not even sure who they all are! I can’t wait to see the movie."

Lee’s likely not alone in not knowing all of the Guardians teammates. Unlike Spider-Man or Captain America, these guys aren’t household names. People really need to take time and read Eric’s comprehensive guide to the team!

Why can’t Lee make a cameo? I’m guessing it’s because the majority of Guardians is going to take place in outer space. Maybe Lee would have to endure hours in the make-up chair to turn himself into an extraterrestrial character for what amounts to a three-second cameo? And at 91, he doesn’t have time for that! I seem to remember set pics of extras running around London, however. Couldn’t Lee get into one of those scenes? I know Lee doesn’t like to travel. Maybe they needed to send a crew to New York City.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be the second Marvel movie released this year, after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It will be in theaters on Aug. 1. And while you won’t see Lee in the background, you can see him in all of these clips. Excelsior!

And this one, my all-time favorite (and not just because it’s Spider-Man… because it’s beyond clever):
