This past weekend we saw the Transformers franchise once again rear its head to create a big sensation at the box office, but it won't be long another movie based on a toy line is coming to theaters. We've been hearing rumors of a Max Steel film adaptation for years, and now it's not only getting made, but has also released a string of first look images.
Safely removed from that terrible time when Taylor Lautner was attached to star, Mattel is safe to move forward on a movie based on a toy Max Steel-- and as dicey as it always is when a toy gets turned into a movie, they're moving forward indeed. Back in August we learned that writer Christopher Yost and director Stewart Hendler were on board, and now Mattel and Dolphin Entertainment have confirmed the project via press release, setting plans for a wide release near the end of 2014
And while Hollywood itself hasn’t listened, that doesn’t mean Mattel can’t just put this thing together itself. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they’ve enlisted Miami-based production company Dolphin Entertainment to fund the sci-fi-ish flick.
Of course, Lautner could have done both-- it's not like he's one of the Iron Man actors chained to Marvel for all time-- but he's clearly aligning himself with the people on top
Taylor Lautner may seem like the most famous man-boy on the planet, if only because his face is plastered on every magazine, billboard, and blog on the planet. But the truth is that he’s only known for Twilight and unless he wants to become Mark Hamill
Scraping the bottom of the barrel has just been redefined by the normally savvy folks at Paramount Pictures. They’re making a movie out of Max Steel. What is Max Steel? It’s like Transformers or G.I. Joe without any of the fanbase, nostalgia, or creativity
