Spider-Man: Homecoming Adds A Nice Guys Actor To Its Gigantic Cast

With constant casting updates coming from the Spider-Man: Homecoming camp, it's starting to feel like if a day ends in "Y," there's a new cast member waiting to be announced. Today certainly lives up to that statement, as the latest player in the Jon Watts directed saga is none other than The Nice Guys Angourie Rice.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who picked up on Rice's casting earlier today. As per usual, no details have been given for her role in the film, but her casting comes hot on the heels of Bokeem Woodbine boarding the project as one of its three villains, as well as Emmy award winning legend Tyne Daly's casting in, yet again, another unknown capacity. So while we don't know what roles certain actors are playing, we can still speculate, and one possible theory on Angourie Rice's role is pretty big.

Angourie Rice

Considering the fact that Spider-Man: Homecoming will take place during Peter's high school years, and the franchise is more than likely building itself up for multiple entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we could be seeing Angourie Rice being positioned as one of Peter's future girlfriends, Gwen Stacy herself. Though The Amazing Spider-Man franchise may dulled the luster on that prospect, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Gwen and Peter become friends, only to later possibly fall in love. Though don't get too excited, as there is one important factor that might prevent this possibility. Seeing as Tom Holland is already 20 and Rice is still in her mid-teens, the age difference between the actors may quash that possibility altogether,

So putting aside Gwen Stacy for the time being, we really have no clue how Spider-Man: Homecoming will use Angourie Rice's acting chops. Come to think of it, there's a really small group of people whose explicit roles in the film are known to the world at large. With all of these unknown roles occupied by known actors, one would think there was a spotter's guide as to who's who being released in our future. Perhaps the impending festivities during this year's San Diego Comic Con will trigger an official press release detailing each new role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Of course, this is very wishful thinking, but anything can happen at Comic Con.

In any case, seeing The Nice Guys catapult Angourie Rice into the A-list exposure that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite rewarding. If any young actor can master dialogue written by Shane Black, they should pretty much be given a blank check for their next project. At least, that's how we see it, and we'll have to wait until Spider-Man: Homecoming's July 7, 2017 release date to see for certain.
