The Next James Bond Needs To Be A Woman, According To Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra

James Bond

The state of the James Bond franchise is completely up in the air right now. Rumors of whether Daniel Craig will be back, or who might take the role if he is not, are going crazy. However, one actress has an idea of who should be cast, and it's not any of the men being discussed. The star of ABC's Quantico had previously made comments that she would be interested in taking on the role and while she certainly still seems interested, she mostly thinks it's time that some woman take the job.

I know everything is about diversity right now. But I think it should be about humanity. It's 2016. It's so easy to separate ourselves and become smaller and smaller pieces of humanity. ... It would be a big win for women, period.

Priyanka Chopra already plays a spy of sorts on television as part of the series Quantico. She certainly capable of kicking butt when called upon to do so. Of course, there are several other women who could potentially take the role of James Bond, who one assumes are not being considered simply because they are women, and James Bond has always been a man. It would certainly be a big win for women in general, and one woman in particular if the decision was made to let James Bond be a woman. While James Bond is the world's most famous spy character, in the end, it's just a character, and it can be rewritten to allow a woman to play the part.

There's nothing about James Bond that requires the character to be male any more than there is that requires him to be white. Idris Elba's name has been rumored as one that has at least been considered for the role in the past. If they can make Bond black, and they can, they can certainly write in other changes. However, Priyanka Chopra tells Refinery 29 there's one change they should not make to the character. If they're going to cast James Bond, then it needs to be James Bond.

And not Jane [Bond]. She should be James Bond, and she should be able to sell it. Why not?

Why not indeed. It's just a name. A woman can be named James. There's an old fan theory going around the name has always been little more than a codename anyway. Maybe that's actually canon. Maybe this James Bond's parents thought she was going to be born a boy and only had one name picked out. James is a good name, let's not limit its use based strictly on gender. That would be silly.

Would you like to see the next James Bond be played by a woman? Which actress would you like to see take the famous role? Let us know in the comments.
