When Supergirl Will Introduce James Olsen’s The Guardian

It's only been a couple of weeks since we found out that Supergirl was going to turn James Olsen into a costumed hero in his own right. Well, now we finally know when his superhero debut will happen and what the episode will be about.

The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality.

Episode details for the debut of James Olsen as the hero Guardian, which will take place on November 14, were released by Supergirl today, and it sounds like he's coming onto the scene at a crucial time, as Kara will be in need of some serious help. With her powers drained by a mysterious parasitic alien, she won't be able to help people in the ways that she's become used to. In fact, considering the types of threats and problems that tend to pop up in National City, she likely won't be able to help people at all. Kara's super tendencies will, at least temporarily, be no more, and the chances that no major issues will erupt while she's out of commission aren't very good.

Considering that we haven't gotten any hints, major or minor, that James has been prepping this move into masked heroism for a while, it will be interesting to see how this came about for the character. Obviously, it makes sense that, after a year of watching Kara grow as a hero and helping out when he could, that he'd want to do more to assist her in the do-gooding and crime-fighting department. But, going from encouraging a hero to becoming one yourself, and willingly putting yourself in a lot of danger on a regular basis when you are without actual superpowers, is another thing all together. It's clear that James takes care of himself, but did he actually start to train just for his time as Guardian? If so, how long has he been preparing to take on this heroic role in National City? How did he decide on his code-name? Will he be a fully fledged hero when we first see him as Guardian, or will he appear in a homemade costume that leaves a lot to be desired? And, if he does already have his suit, where did he get it from? Did he enlist the help of Winn weeks before his official debut?

Gah! I have so many more questions about this whole James Olsen as Guardian thing. I guess we'll all have to wait until November 14 when Supergirl finally shows us James Olsen in his new hero form to get some answers. You can catch Supergirl Mondays on The CW at 8 p.m. EST.
